GMAT scores are valid for up to 5 years and the ISB accepts scores which are in this limit and if a person has taken the test more than once we take the highest score. One of the golden rules for deciding when to take the GMAT is very simple – When you are ready. A lot of time, students do not take into account the time required to prepare for the test. Whether you are a working professional or a student you need to set aside preparation time for the test. You should take enough time to study for it, because there’s no point of taking the test without being prepared.
If you’re fresh out of your college or in your final year of graduation, it may be a good idea for you to start preparing and take the exam right away. The score stays valid for 5 years and you can plan your MBA accordingly.
If you are a working professional, you should carefully plan the preparation time involved. There is no ideal time that you need to set out but our experience tell us that depending on the educational background, you would need anywhere between 6-8 weeks of preparation time. One advantage of taking the test early would also give you an option to retake the test, if you’re not satisfied with your score. The round 1 application deadlines is September 15 and round two deadline is November 30. So plan accordingly. What should not get missed is the time that you would require on the essays and other application requirements.
All the best.
Hi,
I was wondering if you could shed some light on the difference between the two intakes.
I was originally planning on applying for the 15th Sept deadline(Intake 1) but work has become so intense, that I am wondering if applying for intake 2 might be a better option as it will give me a little more time to prepare for the gmat.
Alternatively, can I apply for the intake 1 and then resubmit my gmat score(if needed) at a later stage?
Thanks and regards
Kanika
Kanika, there is no difference between the two intakes. You should apply to us when you are ready. A candidate has equal chances of making it to any cycle as the number of seats and number of applicants to both cycles are more or less the same.
Hi.
I have a PGDM ( Marketing & Information System) and B.E. in E&C and 5 yrs of work exp in Software Sales.
Will there be any hindrance to my admission for a 1 year PGP at ISB because I have a PGDM already?
Regards
Apaul
No. You can apply to us.
Thanks Sir
Hi,
I am going to apply for ISB this year .
I have 5 years of exp. in telecom & an B.tech in E&C but not from an premier institute.
Will it matters the most that one should have a degree from a premier institute .
Pls let me know if international exposure/experience is also mandatory.
I am currently working with one of the pioneer telecommunication european vendor as Senior Engineer.
Pls let me know is it the right time to apply or I should wait & gain more exp. or exposure to meet ISB standards.
Thanks
Deepak
What matters at the end of the day is what you have learnt at college and at work. International exposure helps only if you are able to tell us the learning out of the same and not just have it as an added point on your application. 5 yrs exp is good enough to go to a B-School.
Thanks alot for ur encouraging views .
I will try my best to get into ISB for life time experience.
Hope u will help us for other queries also
Sir,
I am a re-applicant and right now working on improving my GMAT score as a part of the re-application. I think the GMAT takes around 5-6 days to send the official score to a school. If I write GMAT very close to 15th Sept, say within a week ahead of it, will I be able to use the new score for the exam without the official score sent to ISB?
No problem. submit your appl with your test scores.
thank you sir
Hi,
I have 2 and half year experience in financial services, which includes an year spent in one of the leading investment banks. I had been posted in Mumbai and London offices. I left my job December 2010 to pursue my entrepreneurial dream. When I left my job in London and came back to India, I had many ideas in mind but had not been able to do any planning or research beforehand because of the geographical issues. Some of my ideas have been written-off after doing research and I am currently in the planning stage of another idea. I am facing few issues (eg. a top class team is missing), which I feel can be better handled if I have an MBA from a top college.
I want to set up a business in India. For that, should I do an MBA only from an Indian B School? How good is the entrepreneurial environment in ISB? And do you think the time I am spending in just planning of my ideas (6 months as of now) will be easily justifiable to the admission committee?
Close to 200 alumni have started their own ventures. The Wadhwani centre for Entrepreneurship Development is the right place for you to know more about the ecosystem available for people looking at starting their own ventures. learn more about it as http://www.isb.edu/entrepreneurship//
The time gap is alright as long as you can justify it to the admissions committee.
Sounds encouraging. Thanks.
I have had below average marks in 10th and 12th but average gradings in B.tech,
Exceptionally good Extra curricular activites in college days, Continiusly improving track.3 years of professionall good record.
As I have heared ISB admits only acedemically bright students., what can be my chances.
we look for well rounded candidates and not necessarily look for one particular trait. in your case, you can offset it by a good gmat score
I had 2 yrs exp. in software Industry and wishing for GMAT, Is there any thing that more preference given to experience(many people have 5-6 yrs exp.) in selection process.
No. the work exp range has been between 2 – 18 ys for the current batch. so people from all types of work exp have made it.
Dear Sir,
Greetings!
I have pursued B.E. in Chemical along with MBA as dual degree from BITS Pilani. I would be completing 2 years 9 months of Professional experience by 31Mar2012.
I am looking for career shift and am hence planning to apply to ISB in Round2 this year.
I have 2 questions –
1. Would me having an MBA have any impact on my admission and later on placement?
2. Though there are students with experience ranging from 2 to 18 years, the average is around 5 years. Would the lower experience have an impact on placement (both role and compensation)?
1. No.
2. Getting a desired job is a function of many factors and previous work exp is just one of them. it also depends on the career shift that you are looking at, the desired skill sets, the company’s outlook, the roel offered, electives chosen by you, etc.,
Hello sir,
I understand that ISB looks for applicants who are bright in academics and are involved in extra curricular/social activities.
Queries:
1. How much weightage is given to extracurricular/social activities while evaluating an aspirants profile?
2. Moreover, I have been attending to my family business as part time while attending my college (4 yrs) and job (2 yrs). Will this experience be considered by ISB? If yes, can it offset the extracurricular activity part in my application?
we look for well rounded personality and to that extent consistent performance in academics is looked at. if you have not so good academic record, then you can always look to offset it by a good gmat score. extra curriculars are good to have only if they are genuine and you have put in the effort in the same. part time work exp is not counted as work exp but you can always share your learning and exp from the same with us.
Thanks for the response.
I have pursued B. Tech. in Computer Science in 2007 and had a consistent academic record of 75% + (Indian percentile system) right from my 10 th standard. Is this considered as a average/good score by ISB?
From self evaluation, my profile looks weaker at the extra curricular activities part. Thus, I am pretty concerned over this. I target to have a GMAT score of 720+ and with the said academic performance, how would my profile be considered by the admission committee?
Hello Sir,
I would be entering my final year of B.Tech next month. My academic record has been good apart from a little blip in class 12th. Also I have been very active on extra circular front. But I don’t have any full time work experience.
What I wanna know is, is there any possibility that I can be a part of YLP program, and if not when should I apply for a full time MBA program.
Regards
you cannot apply to ylp as it is for people in their pre-final year of graduation. you can apply to PGP after completing two years of full time work after graduation.
Hi,
I am physics (Hons) Graduate from DU. I have average academic record through out. After Graduation I have almost 2 and half years gap. I have 4 years work experience, working as technical support engineer for windows based servers. I have few questions.
1) Can I aply for ISB with such profile.
2) If yes, then how much weightage is given to anyone based on his/her profile.
you can apply to ISB. We have weightage to academics, work exp, essays, interview among others. so, the only way to know your chance is to apply and check.
Dear Sir
I wrote GMAT in January 2008 and scored 710. Will this score be valid or should I rewrite GMAT?
Regards
Gaurav
the score is valid for 5 years from the time you take the test.
Hello sir,
I have total 12 years ( before my graduation 7 years and post graduation 5 years ) of work experience as an entrepreneur in timber industry. Currently I am preparing for GMAT and I am going to write the exam in september 2011. Am I eligible to apply ISB, if so, How many marks do I need to get in GMAT to get into ISB ?
Yes, you are eligible to apply.
Hello,
Does GMAT score plays any role during recruitment process in ISB?
Regards,
Nitin
i assume you meant recruitment as in placement process after you complete the course. It doesn’t play any role in it.
Dear Sir, I have uploaded my official GMAT score report in the ISB application. Do I also have to send an additional copy through Pearson to ISB?
Regards
Kunal
Hi,
I have a B-Tech Degree in ECE & 3.7 yrs exp in the TELECOM field . I have opened my own venture (advertising) but that’s on the side(very low scale) . will it give me any extra advantage .

There is no extra weightage to have started a venture.
Thank you sir..
I am perusing final Final Semester in year in b.com (tax) and as well as Along with my studies I Am doing job from last Two years In a 3 Star hotel , I join in 2010 December as a Hotel receptionist After 6 months I promoted As a Cashier in Liquor BAR and after 1 year ,from June 2012 Working As Staff Supervisor In Hotel.
Do My work Experience In Hotel Industry will Be sufficient for Taking Admission in ISB ?
Yes. You will need to complete two years of full time work experience after graduation to be considered for admission to the PGP programme at ISB. You may bring in the learning, achievements, etc that you had while you worked part time at the hotel during your graduation to prepare impactful essays.
but as you replied to someone else that part time experience will not be counted while taking admission in isb do i need to have full time 2 year job experience after completing my graduation?
Hi,
I have completed two years experience in march 2014. I plan to give my GMAT in july14. Is 2.5 years of exp enough before applying? Will people with 5-6 years of exp get an edge over me?
Mansi – Yes, you may apply with 2.5 years of workex. Every student who gets enrolled in the PGP comes with a unique background & experience. There is no specific edge that others will have over you.
Sir, My work experience is in field of supervising for 2 years in this September 2014. When do you think it will be best for me to apply for GMAT. I am thinking of giving exam on December 2014 as it will give me some insight of GMAT paper pattern.
Krishna – There is no best time to apply for GMAT. Apply when you feel you are prepared and practiced enough.
Hi,
I have two questions.
One is regarding the AWA score, as to how much importance is given to AWA score along with my GMAT score since i scored only 4.5.
Also i have booked a slot to take GMAT again on nov 28th. So, if i get high AWA score and less GMAT total score, can i apply with different Total and AWA scores from two exams?
Please clarify.
Reshma: Your total score is what will be considered. You cannot apply with different Total & AWA scores from 2 different exams.
I have done my graduation from Delhi University in correspondence mode, i have more than 4 yrs of exp and working with a Consulting firm. I just want to ensure can I apply for ISB as I am from a design background and want to go for higher studies.
Your reply will help me lot to think more on this.

Hi Sir,
I am preparing for GMAT and will be appearing within first week of September. I am 07/07/1988 born. Below are my marks details,
10th Board – 71%
12th Board – 56.4%
B.Tech. – 8.24 CGPA
I have lower percentage in my 12th board. Does it matters while taking admission in management program in ISB?
I am currently having 3 years of work experience. I would like to know about which management program will be suitable for me, if I am eligible to apply at ISB.
Thank you,
With regards,
Preeti Paul.
Dear Preeti,
Thank you for writing in.
We consider past academic record in the selection process, however low academic scores can be compensated as you can focus on other parameters and place a strong application.
Admission to the ISB is based on a holistic evaluation, that comprises of :
1. Leadership potential
2. Academic scores.
3. Personal attributes
Your application essays, past academic record, GMAT score, employment details and your performance in the interview, if invited, will have to reflect the above parameters, to help us assess your candidature.
GMAT is just one parameter of the application, which is usually evaluated holistically. The range of GMAT scores accepted in the past has been between 600 and 780.
The PGP we offer is in General Management, however you may specialize in any particular field in the last three terms of the course.
Please write to pgp@isb.edu for any further clarifications. We will be happy to guide you.
Thank You.

Dear Sir/Madam,
My question is- whether AWA score of GMAT is given importance or is it only the total GMAT score that matters for admission process?
Yes Prathamesh, We do have a small weightage for the AWA scores.
