We are in the midst of the admission season for PGP 2013-2014. This is also the time when we get a large number of queries. All these queries give me the impression that there are still a lot of myths about the ISB doing the rounds. So I’d like to talk about the most common ones & bust them.
Myth 1: There is a GMAT cut-off score of 700+
The ISB does not have any cut-off score on GMAT for accepting a PGP application. The only requirement for submitting a GMAT score is that it has to be valid. The application is viewed holistically taking into view the academics, work experience and extra-curricular activities along with the GMAT score. The GMAT score is only one of a number of aspects of the application we look at. The range of GMAT scores in the current class is from 600 to 790.
Myth 2: Round 1 is always better than Round 2
I had talked about this in my last year’s blog too. I don’t mind re-iterating that Round 1 or Round 2 does NOT matter. You should apply when you are ready and your application is at its best. Check if all your application details are completed, if you are comfortable with your GMAT score and if your work accomplishments are portrayed well. If yes, then apply right away. But is a promotion around the corner? Are you going to complete an important project in the next couple of months? If yes, then you might want to apply in Round 2. There is NO advantage of seats in Round 1 over Round 2.
Myth 3: Hyderabad & Mohali campuses follow different Admission processes
The Mohali campus is just a part of ISB as is the Hyderabad campus. We follow a unified admission process across the two campuses. While we would try & accommodate the choice of campus indicated by an applicant, it may not be possible in all cases.
Myth 4: The PGP is not affordable
The advantage at the ISB is a tuition fee that is approximately less than half the average cost of a typical top 10 international B-school. We also have a host of scholarships & loans. While scholarships cover a major portion of the cost, loans cover nearly all of it. The other significant advantage is that this is a one-year programme where you get back to the industry & start earning much earlier as compared to a two-year programme.
I think the answer to the first question is misleading to some extent. What I clearly understand is there is a bench marked ”expectation” from each ”category” (engineers/ doctors/ … etc., males / female) of applicants. Personal experiences tell me that a 700 is much different from a 690.
When you have a bunch of applicants with a similar profile there has to be a differentiating factor. If your overall profile justifies and makes it up for a score of 640 in GMAT the your chance of making it to th interview are as good as anyone else with a higher GMAT score.
I am an engineer and then an mba from DMS, IIT delhi ..Now i have been working with wipro for two years …Please tell me a safe gmat score to get in isb ..if it bothers you , i have good communication and writing skills
We do not have anything called a “safe” GMAT score, since we look at applications holistically.
Hi,
I scored a total of 640 in GMAT. My profile as of now is decent with 2 years work-ex in manufacturing which includes 17 months training in abroad. Do you think I should try for a higher score and then apply ?
While there is no benchmark for a GMAT score, the school takes a holistic view of your application based on which the decision on your selection is made. It is always good to go with all aspects of the application strong from your end.
I agree with the first comment. While, i keep hearing that we do accept lower scores and all. But, haven’t actually come across a student who actually got accepted into the school with a score between 600-640. The posts on various website reiterate the same thing. People with awesome profiles get dinged because of lower scores. Well, you could argue that they didn’t do well in interviews and essays, but i am sure that not everybody with the lower score does bad in interviews and essays. I have gone thru all websites inside out and haven’t heard anybody being accepted with a lower score. You just hear from the current student that they have a student with 600 score and blah blah.
i wanted to know two question regarding admission-
1-Is this mandatory to have at least 2 years of work experience for taking admission.
2- Will it matter on profile that work experience should be in same company for two years.
1. two years of full-time work ex is mandatory at the time of joining the programme, NOT at the time of applying to the programme.
2. It doesn’t matter if you’ve worked in the same organization or a different one.
why do we need GMAT from the exp students ( exp > 10 years). Their achievement should be a deciding factor rather than a GMAT.
The GMAT score is basically to judge the academic capabilities of the candidate as the programme is quite rigorous.
I am an engineering Graduate with more than 11 years of work experience in India’s two Leading Automobile industries . I have already done two correspondence management programs from two premier institues of Mumbai and pune . I am lead auditor for TS16949, ISO14001 and certified silver assessor for TBEM. I was the President of my college cultural committee and coordinator for my batch alumni group.
I wanted to apply for full time ISB Program thru round “2” , but my peer group is suggesting me that their is hardly career growth scope for an 11 yr old professional in ISB, considering avg work ex of group .Not only this , Pre admission you have to struggle for a 700 plus Gmat score, a myth which is broken above and post admission ( if one is fortunate to get in to ISB) it is difficult to land up in to better assignment than my current assignment …
suggest you look at the PGPMAX programme by ISB instead of the PGP which is more suited to candidates with work ex of moe than 10 years.
Do you forsee any difference in the job offers that Mohali campus student may see when compared to students in Hyderabad?
My perception, Mohali being a new campus & part of North-India, might see less lucrative offers in terms of role & salary being offerred to them. Generally, it is a trend in notice, that companies do offer lesser package in north than in south. However, the case with international offers could be bit different than the domestic. Its still ambigous if whether equal or more number of internationationl employers would participate in the recruitment or if they do, then students may (or may not) get to see some lucrative offers.
Expecting an honest reply rather a politically correct answer 🙂
Mohit, the placement process takes place not as per the campus location but across India and other countries irrespective of whether the candidate is from Mohali or Hyderabad.
I would like to know how important or critical are essays in the application process and what exactly is expected in the 90 second video essay from the applicant which has been introduced from this year
The video essay is as critical as the other essays. The 90 second video can be used to showcase your communication & articulation skills along with your strengths.
I have been searching around the internet but couldn’t understand what is cycle 1 and cycle 2 of admission process. Could you please explain. Thank you.
And also if i want to apply for the PGP program when is the apt time to take the GMAT test?
There is no difference between cycle 1 and cycle 2. There is no difference in the number of seats. The process is exactly the same. It just makes it convenient for the Admissioins Committee to handle the large number of applications conveniently.
The best time to give your GMAT test is when you’re ready with your preparation. You can even keep the rest of your application ready & take your GMAT closer to the deadline and then submit with your test scores. The decision is entirely yours.
I have two queries :
1.One of the posts by the admissionsddirector says that we are suppose to have 2 years work ex at the time joining the program and not at the time applying.Does this mean that we have to mention the work ex that we would have at the time of joining i.e. April’13.
2.And also, what if I significantly improve my GMAT score say from a 690 to a 740. will that qualify me to apply in later rounds as well .
1. You have to mention your work ex that you would have as of March 31st.
2. You can re-take your GMAT if you wish to increase your score but do ensure that you submit your revised scores before the application submission deadline. You can apply either in Round 1 or Round for one particular year. You will not be allowed to apply for both rounds in one year itself.
Thank You. That was helpful.
Sir,
I have scored a 650 in the GMAT and am currently in the stage 3 of the YLP.As per the last year’s YLP intake, no student with a score less than 690 has been given an admission.A high GMAT score seems to be a very important requisite.Kindly comment
Thank You
The number of students applying to YLP is huge and the number of students selected is very less. So the competition is high. Also, the only few things that we can judge a YLP candidate on are the academic, extra-curricular activities and the GMAT score.
Sir,
I have a work ex. of approximately 20 months till July, 2012. Currently I am not working as I am preparing for the GMAT exam. Am I eligible for PGP 2013- 2014 session if I complete my 2 yrs work ex till March, 2013?
You need to complete 2 years of full-time work experience at the time of joing the programme. If you do so along with the other criteria, you are eligible for the ISB PGP.
i am in pre final year now but i couldnt apply for ylp n last date was in march .,,am i eligible to apply this now
can i apply for ylp in this month…now i am in 2nd year bcom
Yes you can apply for YLP this year.. The deadline is March 15th, 2013.
Sir,
May I know if the online format of declaration/ evaluation is the same as the offline one?
The form to be filled by your evaluator is the same. The only difference is the format of submitting the evaluation. The online process definitely is simpler, easier & convenient.
Really good blog. Highly recommended.
I’ve been exploring for a little bit for any high quality articles or weblog posts in this kind of house . Exploring in Yahoo I finally stumbled upon this website. Could you please throw some light on how to include start up experience while making an application for ISB?
I’d started up right after completion of my Graduation. I’d to exit it after running it for 11 months and join an MNC, which I’m currently working with, for the past 27 months. So, would my total work-ex as of 31st March 2013 be 44 months?(33 months of Corporate experience and 11 months of startup experience as an entrepreneur)
Thanks in advance.
Yes, your start-up experience will be counted in your work experience.
You have made some good points there. I looked on the web for

Hi,
Thanks for writing this blog; it is quite informative.
I have an 11+ years of work experience in as diverse areas as equity research, international consulting and planning and strategy, with educational background being MBA over a decade ago, and a masters in International Affairs from UC San Diego (full time). Additionally, I worked for 6 months in US in a political research environment on nuclear power subject. Fairly good extra curricular in community service in India and in the US. I want to get into the PGP program instead of PGPMAX because I want to shift to consultancy arena.
My question is regarding my GMAT which is 650. Do you think, to boost my chances, I need to retake the GMAT. I am planning to to enter fro 2013-14 class.
Thanks in advance
Excellent pieces. Keep posting such kind of information on your page.
Im really impressed by your blog.
Hey there, You have performed a fantastic job. I will certainly digg it and in my
opinion suggest to my friends. I’m sure they will be benefited from this website.
Sir,
I am a pre-final year student and i got through round- 1 of ylp . I would like to know the minimum safest gmat score needed to clear round-2.
We do not have any “cut-off” or “safe” scores for GMAT. Of course, a good score will work in your favour.
Hi,
I have around 7 years of experience, working insurance domain as a business analyst.I am planning to take GMAT in sometime in in early November.
what will be best course should I opt for(PGP/PGPMAX….)? As the deadline for application is Nov 30 how advisable is it take the test in November 1st week?Is it mandatory to submit the score card with the score for Essay?or is it OK if we submit the temporary score card that we get immediately after taking the test.
Please advise.Thank you
Hi Satish,
PGPMAX requires a minimum of 10 years experience to apply, so PGP may be a more suitable option for you. I would suggest you get in touch with our admissions officers and have a detailed discussion on the various options available to you. They will also be able to answer any other questions you may have related to the application process. They can be reached at pgp@isb.edu or on phone at +91 40 2318 7474/7484/7494 between 9 AM and 5 PM on weekdays. The toll free number is 1800 103 3234. You may also find answers to many of your questions in our FAQ section, so do go through it too: http://www.isb.edu/faqs/pgp.
All the best!
Hi
The blog is really helpful.
I have 2+ years of experience after completing my 2 year full-time MBA with specialization in Marketing. I am currently working as Business Development Manager in Insurance Industry.
Though I have done my MBA from tier 2 b-school, I still feel the need to improve my abilities and skills to reach middle or top management in MNCs. Is it advisable to do MBA again to get ISB advantage and what should be the duration between the two MBAs?
Please advise. Thank you.
Your question is an interesting one. Let me give you what I consider is an appropriate approach. You have just about 2 years post-MBA experience. Have you found yourself in a situation where you lacked the knowledge and skills in performing you current role? Has there been a situation where your background proved to be a deterrent in advancing your career? If the answers to both these questions are in the affirmative, you could consider pursuing a second business programme. Pursuing it at ISB will definitely give you an added advantage in furthering your career. We do not prescribe any time limit between the two courses, however it would always be a good idea to give at least two to three years so that you do have a clear understanding as to what you want to gain from the new programme.
I have 5 yrs of total Experience, in which approx 2.5 yrs of international experience [4 countries]. I am currently in onsite[Malaysia] With more official responsibilities. Returning back to India on Aug 10th. Will have less time to prepare and attempt GMAT for cycle-1 .I personally feel Cycle 2 would be better option for me to apply.
What are the differences between cycle-1 and cycle-2 ? Applying for Cycle -1 do have any advantage over Cycle-2 in terms of seats preference and scholarship? Please let me know sir.
You should apply when you are ready in all respects. As far as cycle 1 and cycle 2 are concerned, it makes no difference which cycle you apply in. The number of seats offered are in the ratio of applications in each cycle, so effectively the chances of being made an offer is the same irrespective of the cycle you apply in. Hence go with my first advice and apply when you are ready to apply.
Hi,
Does freelance Digital Marketing consulting qualify as work experience?
Please note:
– This is just digital marketing freelancing for small/medium sized local businesses. The practice is not registered
– I have 2.5 years of corporate marketing experience prior to this
Do let me know.
Thanks!
Regards,
Abbas
If your freelance work experience can be substantiated, it will count towards your total years of work experience. In any case, since you already have 2.5 years of work experience, there are no issues in terms of eligibility to apply to the PGP.
Dear sir,
I’m currently in my final year of engineering and have qualified for the 2nd stage YLP. I took my GMAT exam recently and scored 660. I just wanted to know whether students with a score of 660 have a chance of getting through the second stage and whether or not extra curricular activities play a significant role in the selection criteria.
Thank you.
The answer is “Yes” to both your questions.
Sir,
I have 5 years experience in IT, mostly related to managing deliveries and Quality assurance. I am in the UK for the last 3 years working as a onsite coordinator for a 180 plus sized team. I am from engineering background, and looking to move to a more people driven role. I have also been involved in various charitable organisations in the UK.
Do you think my profile has a chance? What points should I be highlighting in my application regarding my job profile?
Thank you.
To give yourself the best chance of getting accepted to the PGP, your application needs to highlight your accomplishments and your learning, at work and otherwise. Try to differentiate yourself from the other strong candidates that will be applying to the programme in the same year. Articulate how the programme can benefit you and what value you can add to the class. All of this can be done through well-written essays that answer the question asked, getting recommendations from those you have worked closely with, and being well-prepared for the interview.
In the coming weeks, I will be blogging about the admission process itself and how applicants can prepare strong applications. So you may want to subscribe to this blog and/or follow us on our Facebook page and Twitter handle, where each blog post is shared.
Thanks a lot.Very helpful Sir.
I have 13 years of work experience in within the BPO sector within top MNC’s such as GE and IBM. I currently work as an Asst. Vice President leading a function of over 300 associates. I am undecided between PGP and PGPMAX. Considering my current profile which would be a more suitable program keeping in mind future career opportunities and ROI.
Since you are eligible to apply to either programme, it would depend more on what you want from them and the commitment in terms of time, effort and resources that you can make. In addition to going through both websites, I would suggest you get in touch with the Admissions Officers of both programmes and have a more detailed discussion with them. You can find contact information for them here.
Additionally, I would also suggest that you attend an information session at a location convenient for you. Depending on the event line-up, you may have the opportunity to meet Admissions Officers, Alumni and Faculty, who can give you insights into the programmes. Upcoming Admissions Information Sessions for PGP can be seen here.
Sir I have two questions.
1. I moved to IT area after graduating in B.E[Hons] Chemical from BITS-Pilani. I am working in this field for 5 yrs. I have been to 4 countries [Philippines, Jordan, Bahrain & Malaysia]. Good experiences in client locations. Now I would like to have career change in terms of industry and functional. I came to know from 2008, atleast 50% of the class having career progression having both functional and Industry shifts in ISB. And at least 70% in either. I confident once admitted I can apply some extra effort to make my goal successful. Does ISB encourage incoming class aspiring career change in terms of Industry and functional after 5 yrs of Experience ?
2. Considering evaluators, I have proved myself versatile and adaptable in different areas. But I worked under same supervision for 4.5 yrs. So choosing two evaluators from the same management group may eventually land up highlighting same attitude and strengths of mine. Please provide some insight why ISB needs 2 recommendations, So that I can choose 2nd evaluator efficiently.
1. A large number of students with five years or more of work experience do make a career shift either in industry or function or both once they graduate from ISB. Though the actual change is dependent on the interest, effort and preparation put in by the student, ISB will provide all the necessary facilities to enable the change to happen.
2. Two evaluators do give two different perspectives about the candidate, even if both are from the same work area as in your case, and this certainly adds value to the application. My suggestion to you would be to choose your immediate supervisor/manager and the supervisor/manager’s manager as your evaluators. You can also opt to get an evaluation from your clients, as they may have had the chance to observe other facets of your profile. The important thing is to get evaluators who have worked closely with you and can provide insight on your ability, attitude, personality, etc
I have a work experience of around 2 years in the search engine optimization field, whereas I cleared my graduation(B.Tech) in Electronics & Communications. My question is that since my field of work is different from my specialization, will that count as 2 years of relevant full time work experience? Please answer my query as I’m quite eager to apply for ISB program.
We will count it as work experience. Lots of candidates as a matter of fact have work experience that are in fields that are different from their academic qualifications.
Hello Sir,
I have 7+ yrs of experience in IT industry, mostly in s/w development and analytics.
I have few questions for you:
1) My goal is to pursue something related to analytics / consultancy and one day start my own venture as i feel i am good in these areas. Does PGP provide enough exposure in analytics / consultancy / entrepreneurship skills?
2) I have recently given GMAT but the score isn’t good. Hence, If I retake GMAT and apply in round 2 will my first GMAT score make any difference?
3) Is there any maximum exp. limit you look for? The reason I am asking this is because next time when I take GMAT I want to fully prepared as this time I had few other uncontrollable issues which resulted in not so good score.
I missed to ask one more thing –
4) I am working in same company since my graduation in 2006. Does this make any difference in application, Good or Bad?
4) This is not an issue at all. Lots of candidates have been in one organisation for long periods of time and done well.
1) There would be enough both in the course curriculum and applied learning courses to help you get the skills you want. We also have a specialization in entrepreneurship if you are keen on going the entrepreneur route. Do take a look at our other blog posts on careers and extracurricular activities, if you haven’t already. They will give you more insight into the resources available to you for this particular purpose.
2) We always take the highest GMAT score hence the first score you have got will not be considered if the second score is higher.
3) Our class experience ranges from 2 years to 20 years. We do not have a cap on maximum experience.
Thank you !!!
Respected sir
Now i am working in a bank.as a assistant manager.i want to give G MAT in next year.but my academics percentages average.is there any problem in selection process.
from last 5 years i have dream admission into ISB.
Thanks & Regards
K Mallikarjun
You can make a strong application by projecting the achievements you have had both professionally and personally. In addition you can aim for a strong performance in the GMAT test so that it compensates for the average academic scores. As far as we are concerned what matters most is the overall quality of the application. While individual components of the application like the GMAT score academic scores etc are important none of these is a deal breaker.
thank you for infomation..
I am working as Sr. engg in a telecom operator with 6 yrs of work experience can you guide me regarding score and month in which i can apply to get admission in to this prestigious college
If you are referring to GMAT score, there is no prescribed score as such. In terms of application dates, you can apply in either Round 1 (deadline is September 15, 2013) or Round 2 (deadline is November 30, 2013).
is YLP 2013 ( for class 2017 ) taking students for Mohali campus this time ?
Yes, YLP 2013 (applying for class of 2017) will have students starting their course at either campus.
Sir
I’m a working professional with 5 yrs. of experience.I’m a BCA passout(2005),after that I started my career as a Sales Executive in a Telecom Company. For last 3 years I’m with a MNC Telecom company, working as a Territory Manager.
I’ve just started my GMAT Prep and would be applying next year for ISB PGP.I’ve two questions.
1>As I have started my career in Sales and that to in a a very ground level profile, will it be considered a demerit considered to other applicants?
2>By the time of application,I’ll be carrying a 7.5+ Yrs of experience ,will be it be a hindrance compared to other avg.5 yrs. experienced “ISB Ideal” candidates(as seen on different blogs n sites)and if selected, will role shifting to a different vertical(Consulting/IB )/industry would be difficult for me?
Thanks & Regards
Rajiv
1. The fact that you started in sales is certainly not a “demerit” as you seem to call it. What matters much more is how you have progressed in the 7.5 years of work experience.
2. 7.5 years by itself is not a disadvantage. Approx 10% of our class has work experience above 7.5 years. What we do expect is that people with high work experience display a lot more maturity, leadership and focus in their application and typically all such application are viewed from that perspective. Our own experience has shown that with higher levels of work experience, people tend to make significant career progress in the same industry from which they came and often in a similar function. The number who have been able to make an industry and function shift are relatively low, though not unknown.
Sir i wuld like to know the difference between early entry and ylp programme. and wht is the duration of ylp , what is being taught in it? can you please define the meaning of outstanding extracurricular activites like wht does tht includes just for a bit clarity 🙂
thanks
The YLP is for undergraduate students while the Early Entry is for those who have finished their graduation but are yet to complete two years of work experience. The offer of admission to the YLP is made while a student is in the final year of graduation and, once the person graduates, he/she is expected to complete 21 months of work experience before joining he PGP programme. During the 21 months, they will have four weekend interventions at the ISB campus where they will go through a structured programme. An Early Entry applicant will only be made a deferred offer to a future class, so that he/she can join it after completing two years of full-time work experience.
Outstanding extra-curricular activities – Great performance at one or more activities outside of regular studies as prescribed by the curriculum. Representation in school or college in the area of your choice – sports, student government, debate, art, theatre, social service, international collaboration, etc are just a few examples of extracurricular activities.
Hi,
I have graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree where I’ve passed the degree with 1st class as stated by the degree certificate (considering only the final year is the Board exam). However, if I were to take the average of all 3 years, it would not feature in the 1st class. Do I take the average or the scores counted only towards my degree?
We will go by the university certificate and the marks counted thereof for evaluation purpose. However, we also require you to give the individual year marks so that we can have a look at the consistency of the academic record.
Just wanted to clarify one point, if a candidate has given GMAT more than one time, do you consider the best of the scores or do you look at the average?
We will go with the best score.
Dear Sir,
I am a student of mechanical engineering background and at the same time i have done advance diploma in finance from a private school(6 months course) as to get in finance field and to learn about it and as soon as I completed my finance I have joined an International Company as an full time intern for 12 months where I was paid and soon after 12 months I left the company and joined another company as an intern for another 12 months at some other place.
Now my question is that whether my internship experience(12+12=24) is undertaken as my Job experience.
also that I have good extra curricular activities done but an average educational background.
I still have to write my GMAT.
Will I be eligible to join ISB PGP with Internship experience and average educational skills.
Please respond to my question, I am very much curious.
Thank you
Can you please provide more details about the internships? I would suggest you write to us at pgp@isb.edu to discuss this and get clarification, as it is not very straightforward.
Thank for your reply
I did my Internship in Operations from top international world banks.
If I write a great blog, will that be considered as an extra-curricular activity?
Sure, but what is important is to show us how you have gone about this, what impact it has had and any significant learning for you from this.
Hello Sir,
Good morning, i wanted to ask,
How do you consider full time trading on own in Indian stock exchange as experience for admission to ISB?
Note- He can only produce bank statement, trading statement and tax statements as proofs, he will not be having experience letter as compared to other employed applicants.
Thanks,
Karan Thadhani
So long as the person can prove that he/she has actively traded on the stock exchange on a regular basis through bank statements, trading statements and tax statements, we will accept it as work experience. A more important question to answer is why he/she wants to do the MBA and what he/she brings to the table.
Does ISB has any corporate tie-up for sponsored candidate’s admission.
While we do not have a formal tie up with any corporates for sponsorship, we do get sponsored candidates to the PGP programme each year from companies. If you are interested in exploring this option further, do write to us at pgp@isb.edu.
Hi,
I wish to apply for the 2014-15 intake. I understand that certain schools take an average of the gmat scores of the candidate instead of the best of all. Could you please clarify the position from the point of view of isb – are average scores considered or the best of all?
Thanks.!
Sorry, just realised the same question has already been asked. Thanks anyway!
The best score will be considered.
Hi,
I’m interested in starting up an Entrepreneurial venture in Manufacturing. So, If selected, I want to make my stint at ISB revolve around manufacturing & Entrepreneurship. I learnt that Munjal Manufacturing Institute is in ISB Mohali but not in Hyderabad. How will this affect my chances of taking manufacturing related electives in Hyderabad ? Is it that the students interested in manufacturing are allocated mainly to ISB Mohali Campus?
Thanks,
Electives in the area of manufacturing are available at both our campuses, Hyderabad and Mohali. It does not matter which campus you are allotted to, you can fulfill your aim specializing in Manufacturing and Entrepreneurship.
I am planning to take admission for 2014 batch. GMAT Score: 650
As a PROJECT ENGINEER, I have TWO years of experience in Wipro Technologies.
In 10th, 12th and B.Tech, i scored an average 70%. Apart from working for few NGOs and as a freelancer, I don’t have much astounding achievement.
Do you consider such profile or it’s outright NO ?
If No, Can you kindly suggest me few things, which will surely enhance my profile, suffice to impress the interviewers ?
Your Reply is much awaited ! 🙂

1> i have scored 690 in Gmat exam but i scored 50 % in 12th & graduation and 63 % in PGDM . As i have an experience of 7 years in HR & Admin. So, is it possible for me to get into ISB and does ISB provide smooth placements to those who have scores like me in 12 & graduation.
The applicant pool at ISB is very competitive and therefore I will be unable to comment on your chances of getting admitted to ISB without receiving your complete application. For students who do make it to ISB, the placement is a function of both their past academics, past experience and their learning at ISB. We do have a very good ecosystem to get students into careers that are suited to their skills and aspirations. You may want to read about our placement process here: ISB’s Placement Process – A Look Behind the Scenes.
Sir,
I am applying to ISB and one of my colleague from my work team is also applying to the same program. We both have similar professional profiles and academic background, and accidentally similar GMAT scores too. Thus on the diversity factor, is there any chance that we both might be harming each other or are there chances that we both could be taken in program.
Regards
Each applicant is looked at individually based on individual merits. The fact that we have two applications from the same work team does not affect or improve the chances of either of the applicants.
I have around 8 years of experience in oil and energy sector including public sector undertaking. I have some significant achievements in the work place and very good academics and achievement in undergraduate. However I have a GMAT score of 660 in which the verbal percentile is low (48). So my questions is does ISB consider sectional score individually. Can I be rejected on the basis of low verbal score only?
We consider only the aggregate score.
sir,
i had done my b.tech this year i am very much interested to get admission in ISB,at present i’m working with my uncle so i would like to ask you about gmat some of them told me that it should be around 700+ to get admission in ISB is it true and one more thing is that after the shortlist of the candidates how much thus it take to call for an interview
The range of GMAT in our class is 600 to 790. The average of the class is 710. You have to have a very competitive profile covering academics, GMAT scores, work experience, other interest areas and personality traits to get admitted to ISB.
Sir,
In a case a person is awarded in some area but din’t get the certificate, can he include that award as his achievement in application?
Always preferable to have certificates or recognition of rewards, but you can go ahead and mention them even otherwise.
Dear Sir/Mam
I had 2 questions about the process. The first is if a round 2 applicant does not receive an interview call by the scheduled date (i.e 9 – 13 Jan, 2014) does that imply that the application is no longer being considered for admission or are there any other factors involved too?
My Second question is I am currently onsite for a project implementation ,If I get an interview call in this duration, would it be possible to have the interview in or around the current city I am in (Mumbai) contrary to my original selection (Delhi)?
Sir,
While my 10th and 12th scores are 90%+, my graduation score is hardly impressive at 55%. My GMAT score is 710. I am planning to apply for the early entry option. Do you suggest I retake the GMAT to cover up for the low graduation score? How else can I cover up for my low score?
Hi,
have the round 2 interviews for Delhi concluded yet.. i was told that delhi interviews have been rescheduled and would be held at Hyderabad and Mohali.. just curious if its still on
I have got 700 on my gmat, but I having 3years work experience working in my family business. Will this be a hindrance. As in I my work profile isn’t great? Pls reply
Hi,
I am contemplating on taking the GMAT this year and applying to the ISB. I will have 4.5 years of work experience by the time I apply. I have completed my Masters with a GPA of 3.25. I have completed my Bachelors with a score of 78 %. I have scored 76 % in my 10th grade. I have scored badly in the 12th grade (45 %). It would be great if you can let me know what should I concentrate on most to compensate for the low score in the 12th so that I can make my profile competitive enough for the ISB.

Hello Sir,
I scored 650 in my GMAT. I have 14 years of experience in IT. I have been in the retail domain for past 13 years and Im planning to pursue an MBA in Supply Chain Management. Could you please let me know what my chances are to get into ISB?
Appreciate your help.
Thank you
Hello Sir,
I have around 4 years of experience in a top global Mobile R&D Industry and am now in a leadership role. Also, I possess excellent academic and extra-curricular achievements.
But my GMAT score is on the lower side (640). Still can I consider applying? Or I do not have a chance with this low score.
Sir,
I’m currently working as a Sales officer in one of the leading fmcg companies in India and have gained 6 months of full time work experience. I just gave my GMAT with a score of 640 (Q-48, V-28, AWA- 5.5, IR- 8). I have 2 questions-
1. Will the IR score of 8 work as a differentiator while shortlisting candidates? Does ISB otherwise take into account IR and AWA scores seriously?
2. If I plan to apply through the early entry option, how would you advise me on taking recommendation letters from my seniors as it won’t really display a good picture on my part in terms of a long term career with the company?
Hello Sir,
I have been working in TCS from 2010 but resigned recently due to stagnation and also because I was not a very good coder.I am currently planning to prepare for entrance exams (GMAT) as I need to get into a top B school this year itself.I had thought of applying to ISB but after reading in numerous places I am getting a feeling that the fact that I have resigned will affect me negatively during interviews.Kindly guide me on this.

Dear Sir,
I have total 11 years of experience in IT industry out of which over 6 has been with Project and Program Management. Considering that I am still in my early thirties, do not want to be content with the growth path that my current role is providing. I am very keen to augment my skills by undergoing MBA from ISB and explore other organizations as well as Industries.
Its difficult for me to decide if my focus should be on full time PGP or part time PGPMAX. Are there campus placement opportunities for students from PGPMAX course?
Since I need to take a hefty loan, need your suggestion to focus accordingly. I am yet to write the GMAT exam.

is this the right place to ask questions about admissions
Hi,
I am a Fresh Btech Graduate with 7 months work-exp in IT Industry from a MNC .I dont have a GMAT score now.I will give GMAT in 3months and want to get into ISB when I get 2 years work-exp. I have few questions
1) What is the difference between 2-years MBA offered by IIMs and other business schools and this 1 year PGP in ISB ?
2) Why people already having MBA degree from IIMs and other B-schools apply for PGP again ?What kind of career oppurtunities they have compared to 2years work-exp people persuing PGP from ISB with them?
3) If I get good GMAT score and 2 years work-exp, and if I am able to perform well in GD and essays can I assume I have high chances of getting admission ?
4) After completion of course successfully are Placements guaranteed?
Your Answers would be very helpful.
Thankyou

Madhuri
Thanks for any other fantastic post. Where else could anybody get that kind of information in such a perfect means of writing? I have a presentation subsequent week, and I’m on the look for such information.
is this the right place to ask questions about admissions?
Messe: Yes
Dear Sir,
I am a graduate in commerce from University of Delhi, a CA by profession, and currently working with HCL Technologies. Its been almost 1.5 yrs now.
From your previous communications with the applicants, I understand that GMAT score along with the background of the candidate are the basic criteria basis which the selection is done.
I would like to understand that does my background serve good to stand out from rest of the applicants and a min of what score is required so that I do not miss out on ISB.
Regards
Anonymous: With regards to your profession, there is no weight-age for any particular profession. You are welcome to apply. About the GMAT score, we evaluate the application in a holistic manner where is only a part of the evaluation process. The profile of the candidate matters more than the score.
Hi,
I am a engineering graduate with aggregate of 81% .
I have 20 months of work experience in a MNC.
I own a construction firm which is running successfully. I am active in extra curricular activities as well.
Will a gmat score of 640 give me a chance to get into ISB ?
or shall i reconsider my score before applying ?
Raj: The ISB looks at the profile more than the GMAT score. A quarter of the class has scores lower than 700. The score is only one part of the evaluation. As long as you can highlight your achievements, showcase your capabilities, you need not worry about your GMAT score.
Hi
Thanks for such a straightforward and encouraging post.
My query is that I am pursuing CA along with full time work ex of 3+ years. My GMAT score is 650. While I am reasonably sure of clearing CA exams (as I have only 3 papers left to be written), my results would not be coming anytime before applying for ISB. Would my lower GMAT score and “pursuing CA” status hamper my chances in any way?
Regards
SS
SS: Firstly, there is no GMAT cut-off at ISB. A quarter of the class has GMAT scores lower than 700. ISB places importance on the profile rather than scores on paper. Regarding your doubt on pursuing CA, there is no way it can hamper your application. Focus on your essays & highlighting your achievements and learning.
Dear Sir,
I have a query. I wanted to know the overall process at ISB. Does it all boil down to the final interview and how you do in it or is it a component of weightage given to different parts like GMAT score, essays, recos, experience, etc..
I am asking this because I was working towards the ISB interviews and however on the day of the interview I guess got a bit flummoxed by the situation and also it was a SKYPE interview which was a bit different.
So will be really glad if you can help answer this query

Hello ,
Myth busters were been of great help, but it didnt quite my inner voices and queries. I am working as a software professional for 10 months now in a top MNC.. Its my dream of completing my MBA at ur esteem institution. But my past record isnt that great. I havnt been involved in a volantary organisation and I was jus average in my Btech with an aggregate of 74%.
But with recent events, I have developed deep desire to make the best of maself .. I have been working on quant and verbal for like 6 months now and taking mock tests ..results are good…but everytime, I read, the GMAT score is NOT the only criteria, I get a little discouraged.
Please share with me what are the other areas that I need to develop, to increase my chances in getting into ISB.
Thanks and Regards

Your application essays, past academic record, GMAT score, employment details and your performance in the interview, if invited, will have to reflect the above parameters, to help us assess your candidature.

Dear Rajendra,
You will have to apply through the Early Entry Option.
The Early Entry Option (EEO) to ISB’s Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) allows recent graduates with less than 2 years of full-time work experience to secure their admission to ISB.
The candidate selected will secure a deferred admission and will be eligible to join the PGP upon completing at least 24 months of full-time work experience.
Application Deadlines for PGP/EEO 2016-17
Round 1 : October 15th 2015

Sir,
I have 2 queries:
1. I have made through the 1 stage of ylp and is in my 2 stage. I gave my GMAT and scored 660. But my IR score is very low (IR score- 2.0). Will this affect my chances of getting selected or will it affect my application negatively(the IR score)?
2.Does ISB Consider IR scores while reviewing Gmat score as a whole?
Thanks in advance.
Dear Shivam,
We do not consider IR scores in the YLP stage 2 selection process.
You may go ahead and submit the application with a score of 660.
Thank You.

Hi,
Could you please throw light on the scholarship distribution in round 1 and round 2 candidates.
Dear Suman,
Need and merit based scholarships are given in both Round 1 and Round 2.
However, full tuition waiver is given only to the meritorious Round 1 applicants.
Here are the advantages of applying in R1.
Advantages of applying for the earlier deadline:
– Full tuition fee waivers will be considered only to Cycle 1 applicants.
– 50% of merit and need based scholarships will be offered in Cycle 1.
– It will give adequate time for you to complete your exit formalities in the current organization
before you enroll into PGP.
Thank You.
Hello sir,
I aspire to study mamagement at ISB. Following are my details:
1. 10th ~ 90% (ICSE)
2. 12th = 83% (CBSE)
3. Under grad= 8.27 CGPA
4. GMAT- 690
5. Work exp- 10 months
6. Co-curricular- National level chess player ( representer of my state in National ‘B’ chess championship in 2010 and 2011.
I want to apply through the Early Entry Option (EEO). Is a 690 in GMAT competitive enough for me to have decent chances?
Also, will my national level credentials in chess improve my odds?
Finally, I have a relatively low IR score of 4. Will this work against me? Does ISB strongly considers an applicant’s IR score?
Thanks,
Regards,
Joshua
Dear Joshua,
As Integrated Reasoning (IR) is a relatively recent section and not all our applicants have it, hence we are not considering IR score in the current year’s application process.
Thank You.

I scored very low marks during my graduation in 2006 from University of Calcutta. However now I have little more than 9 years of experience in good multinational companies and I have several accomplishments. Do I stand a chance if I could achieve a good GMAT score to get admitted for the PGP program at ISB.

We do not have any particular cut off for academics.

Hi
I have a GMAT score of 640 (Q 49, V29, IR 7, AWA 5). I have graduated as a chemical engineer from university of Mumbai and I have worked for 5 years in manufacturing and operations in a leading German based multinational. I have had good career progression in these years and I am currently having a team leadership role. I have worked in different locations in India in manufacturing and operations. My undergraduate academic credentials are decent and consistent. I am now looking for a career transition to a sales or a marketing profile in the same chemicals industry. To achieve this transition, I intend to pursue a management course. Though my accomplishments at work have been good , my accomplishments before work have not been too many. With this brief description as a reference, please let me know what are the chances that I may be interviewed at a premier institute such as ISB.
