Perspectives from ISB

In the dynamic landscape of leadership, women have been breaking barriers, redefining norms, and paving the way for a more inclusive future. Recently, in an inspiring session of the ‘Meet with a LeadHer’ series, Sonali Giri, IAS, Managing Director, Punjab State Civil Supplies Corporation Limited (PUNSUP), Government of Punjab, shared her insights on women’s empowerment and the importance of collaboration between genders in achieving collective success.

Giri’s journey is a testament to resilience and determination. She emphasised the pivotal role played by supportive men in her life, including her father, husband, and male mentors, who encouraged her to pursue her dreams despite societal opposition. Through relatable anecdotes, she highlighted how women’s decision-making can create a ripple effect, positively impacting not only their lives but also those around them – what she aptly termed ‘The butterfly effect’.

What sets Giri’s perspective apart is her belief in the power of collaboration over competition. She advocates for a culture where women can retain their cultural and personal preferences while working alongside men towards shared goals. Rejecting the notion of feminism that breeds animosity towards men, Giri champions the idea of uplifting each other regardless of gender.

Her approach challenges conventional stereotypes, highlighting the importance of embracing diversity and leveraging individual strengths for collective advancement. Giri’s message resonates deeply in today’s world, where collaboration and inclusivity are essential for driving meaningful change.

As we continue the ‘Meet with a LeadHer’ series, let’s heed Giri’s call to action – to foster an environment where men and women complement each other’s abilities, celebrate diversity, and collectively strive towards a more equitable future. Together, we can break barriers, inspire greatness, and create a world where everyone has the opportunity to soar.

Organised by the offices of External Relations and Alumni Engagement, ‘Meet with a LeadHer’ is a series of interactive lunch/coffee meets where a woman leader shares perspectives on their journey and achievements with the ISB community.
