Perspectives from ISB

I recently had the privilege of attending a session with Smt Jaspreet Talwar, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Punjab, who shared invaluable lessons on leadership, governance, and resilience in public service.

Smt Talwar emphasised that every role in civil service, regardless of its nature, holds the potential to influence lives and bring about meaningful transformation. Her leadership philosophy is rooted in humility, advocating for teamwork and the importance of sharing credit with colleagues. She underscored the need for resilience, highlighting that navigating bureaucracy requires a ‘thick skin’ to withstand challenges while driving meaningful change.

Currently leading two critical departments – Planning and Taxation – she also dedicates time to mentoring future administrators as a faculty member at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA). She provided a glimpse into the immense work that happens behind the scenes in governance, often unnoticed but crucial in shaping policies and public welfare.

What stood out most was her unwavering passion for service. Despite decades of experience, she remains as committed as ever to working for the welfare of people. For students aspiring to make an impact, she advised developing a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical exposure, encouraging them to explore diverse opportunities to build a well-rounded perspective.

As I reflect on this engaging session, her journey serves as a testament to the power of resilience, humility, and purpose-driven leadership in public service.

Organised by the offices of External Relations and Alumni Engagement at ISB, ‘Meet with a LeadHer’ is a series of interactive lunch/coffee meets where a woman leader shares perspectives on her journey and achievements with the ISB community.
