Let\u2019s admit it. School search and admissions process is a daunting task. The application process is cumbersome, complicated and detailed. Every website has a new perspective, new information, dos and <\/span>donts<\/span>. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is easy to feel lost and not know what to do. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, the question is \u2026 how do you effectively manage the application and admissions process?<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s simple<\/span>: <\/span>follow the right <\/span>source<\/span>.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A<\/span>lways lookout for the info-sessions by the <\/span>S<\/span>chool<\/span> you are interested in o<\/span>r the ones in which a representative from <\/span>your S<\/span>chool <\/span>of interest <\/span>is participating<\/span>, like a career fair<\/span>. Info sessions are a great way to bridge the gap between expectations and reality.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hearing from the authori<\/span>s<\/span>ed school representative<\/span>s<\/span> helps to clear out thoughts and streamline the application process by taking out uncertainty and fear of unknowns. <\/span>I got an invite for an online info-session by the Admissions team<\/span> at ISB,<\/span> and <\/span>the invite appeared interesting and hence<\/span> <\/span>I <\/span>registered for it. It was an hour-long session with detailed questions and answers. In the session,<\/span> <\/span>the School\u2019s representative<\/span> spoke in detail about the constituents of the application process such as academics, GMAT, work experience, co-curricular and recommendation.<\/span> He explained clearly the weightage of all these elements and how do they contribute to the overall application. If you are planning to bluff on some of these elements, you should know that the ad<\/span>missions committee<\/span> is an expert at catching bluffs! <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

He further explained about interview shortlisting and final decision.<\/span> These decisions are not random and follow a structured approach. Your entire application plays a role in these shortlists.<\/span> <\/span>The info sessions were extremely valuable in giving me a clear picture of what to expect and how to efficiently work on my application.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To gain further understanding, I reached out to ISB\u2019s admissions team<\/span> <\/span>via a phone call <\/span>and got <\/span>clarity on a few <\/span>specific doubts that I had regarding the process<\/span>, which wasn\u2019t available on the School\u2019s website.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cool tip: <\/span>Never ask questions such as what is the average GMAT, how many essays do you require, is the recommendation mandatory etc. Such information is always available on the <\/span>S<\/span>chool\u2019s website.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Understanding the process followed by <\/span>any <\/span>Business School is <\/span>of utmost importance as the <\/span>admission committee is better off reading an application that follows a standard structure than one that doesn’t<\/span>. <\/span>I noted down some crucial parts that helped me to organi<\/span>s<\/span>e my application.<\/span> <\/span>Insights on essays were tremendously helpful as they help<\/span>ed<\/span> <\/span>me<\/span> to remove unwanted clutter from <\/span>the<\/span> essays.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The application process was smooth. It\u2019s a robust and time-tested process that does not fail. If you do happen to get stuck somewhere, the team is quick to respond and resolve your concern.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fortunately, like my application process, my selection was done smoothly too. I began in the Class of 2020 on April 5, but my journey at ISB started from the info session I attended.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once at ISB, t<\/span>hings <\/span>didn\u2019t <\/span>move fast here<\/span>; t<\/span>hey move<\/span>d<\/span> at the speed of light! I am <\/span>just two <\/span>months old here and 1.5 terms have already passed. The journey is demanding, testing and<\/span>,<\/span> <\/span>of course, fulfilling<\/span>. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

T<\/span>he essence of this fast-paced program<\/span>me<\/span> is not to intimidate<\/span> you<\/span>. Rather, it\u2019s to inculcate a habit of prioriti<\/span>s<\/span>ing. Since you cannot do everything in practically <\/span>at once, <\/span>you learn how to prioriti<\/span>s<\/span>e, how to plan and how to work in a team. You have a plethora of activities, clubs, groups and everything that you can think of to take a break, relax and rejuvenate yourself. <\/span>All you need to do is <\/span>balance <\/span>all<\/span> your options in a way that maximi<\/span>s<\/span>es your output and takes you closer to your goal! (Oops! that was<\/span> a<\/span> typical MBA jargon \u2026 but can\u2019t help \u2026 it\u2019s crucial learning too!)<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To conclude, <\/span>I\u2019ll<\/span> say that follow the <\/span>S<\/span>chool\u2019s word for the admissions process. It will remove unnecessary stress and rework from your application<\/span> process<\/span>. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
