{"id":311,"date":"2022-02-02T04:40:26","date_gmt":"2022-02-02T04:40:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.isb.edu\/healthcare\/?p=311"},"modified":"2025-12-31T09:24:18","modified_gmt":"2025-12-31T09:24:18","slug":"amph-discussion-circle-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.isb.edu\/healthcare\/2022\/02\/02\/amph-discussion-circle-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Can healthcare go the \u201cUber\u201d way?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"TextRun Highlight SCXW102085095 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW102085095 BCX0\">A growing number of startups classify themselves as \u201cpatient aggregators\u201d on similar lines as \u201ctaxi aggregators\u201d.<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW102085095 BCX0\"> While<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"TextRun Highlight SCXW102085095 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW102085095 BCX0\">the founders and the investors behind these projects would vouch for the benefits and value that these projects add to healthcare delivery, there<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TrackChangeTextDeletion TrackedChange SCXW102085095 BCX0\"><span class=\"TextRun Highlight SCXW102085095 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW102085095 BCX0\">\u2019s<\/span><\/span><\/span><span class=\"TrackChangeTextInsertion TrackedChange SCXW102085095 BCX0\"><span class=\"TextRun Highlight SCXW102085095 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW102085095 BCX0\"> are<\/span><\/span><\/span> <span class=\"TrackChangeTextDeletion TrackedChange SCXW102085095 BCX0\"><span class=\"TextRun Highlight SCXW102085095 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW102085095 BCX0\">certainly <\/span><\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun Highlight SCXW102085095 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW102085095 BCX0\">some unanswered doubts and apprehensions. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TrackChangeTextDeletion TrackedChange SCXW102085095 BCX0\"><span class=\"TextRun Highlight SCXW102085095 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW102085095 BCX0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP TrackedChange SCXW102085095 BCX0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>AMPH Co 2022 students <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/drkarun\/\">Dr. Karun Singla<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/sudhakar-singh-8503858\/\">Sudhakar Singh<\/a> invited experts and industry leaders to share their opinions and insights on the rapidly growing and evolving \u201cuberisation of healthcare\u201d in the AMPH Discussion Circle hosted by the Max Institute of Healthcare Management.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Key insights from the discussion\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Uberisation of healthcare is happening\u00a0rapidly and it is a potentially disruptive trend.<\/li>\n<li>There is a broad opinion that healthcare in India is broken in more than one way.<\/li>\n<li>There\u00a0is an unmet need when it comes to the patient\u2019s journey from the doctor\u2019s consultation to discharge from the hospital, more so in cases where surgery is required.<\/li>\n<li>Patient aggregators like Pristyn Care, Glamyo, etc. claim to smoothen the patient\u2019s journey.<\/li>\n<li>While taxi aggregators like Uber created value for both the customer and the provider, healthcare is a more complex ecosystem with multiple stakeholders (4Ps \u2013 patients, providers, payers and policymakers) and the processes might not be as linear as a cab-hailing\u00a0service.<\/li>\n<li>Unlike other services, where you can feel, try\u00a0and use\/reject, healthcare is sensitive, emotive\u00a0and leaves no scope for error lest it results in harm.<\/li>\n<li>While it may be worthwhile to aggregate pre\u00a0and post-hospital services, how these aggregators deal with actual care delivery remains to be seen.<\/li>\n<li>Doctors and healthcare providers feel short-changed as the addition of a new stakeholder to the value chain takes away a big chunk of revenue from the hospitals and doctors with the aggregators retaining the lions&#8217;
